I have noticed that latley there seems to be a fad to be a "tech geek". Whilst pondering this thought, I thought to myself: Am I part of this fad? I am a high-schooler so that would make sense for me to follow fads because I have a weak mind, but there had to be a better way. This lead me to the point of this thread which was to ask: What is the difference between someone who truly enjoys electronics and one who enjoys it because it's "cool"?

I do it because I get paid.

I think you answered your question while you asked it. There is a dichotomous distinction among technology enthusiasts: either they enjoy technology in a genuine sense or they enjoy it to advance up a social ladder.

When I "became" a geek, it wasn't cool, so I can immediately tell you that I didn't do it because of a trend. I have no idea what the trend is now, because I haven't been in high school in over ten years. I do know that the ladies weren't too impressed with my Atari 1200XL.

I originally got into technology to understand Ron. However, I found that I really enjoy it. It has nothing to do with being "cool"; if I wanted to be cool would I teach??
