So I'm trying to write a chat client for my friend, but i have no idea how to write to the server from a different computer, or in an applet for that matter. I understand the input stream of reading from the server, but I still have no idea how to change a file from my computer on his server. Oh I should metion I'm writing in Java but psuedo code helps me alot also. |

How much socket programming have you done? I was doing something similar a while ago and I can forward you some code, but I wrote the server in C++ and the client in Java. |

Sockets programming usually refers to programming for communication over TCP/IP or UDP. Somebody a while ago thought it might be a swell idea to let computers talk to each other, and through the years that tradition has continued. In Java there are standard classes that can help you create a networked program. Sun's socket programming trail is a good place to start learning how to design and write an application with a client-server architecture. |
