We bought 3 $20 bookcases from Wal-Mart (you might need more or less depending on the size of your bed and the bookcases) and put them behind our bed. We simply put the shelves in at the height of the bed for the inside base of the headboard and it has a built-in storage underneath that shelf. It'd probably be cheaper than trying to make one what with having to recut the wood over and over and it'd probably end up looking a lot nicer too.

This, of course, is assuming you mean a shelf-headboard and not just a flat piece of wood in a pretty shape.

In my humble opinion, the only good thing about the flat type of headboard is they prevent your pillow from falling anywhere. But the shelf type eliminates the need for nightstands. Plus they allow reading lights over you instead of to your side.

You should just search garage sales for a stool, it might save ya a lot of hassle.

I'm sure I could go out and buy one, but I'd really rather make one. Hobbies and whatnot.

You should make a complimentary stool to the one you make then.. one that's 6 feet tall.

And a complimentary potty training toilet.. again a 6 foot tall one.
