What is the pricing on the exotics in your area? Do you ever check out Woodcraft? They have an enormous selection of stuff, often in stock on location.

There's a mill about ten minutes from my house that sells exotics. They also sell domestic woods by the board foot, rough sawn, and will surface the boards for a fee. However, they sell a lot of their cutoffs and those pieces are perfect for boxes, toys, and other small projects, so I can get excellent S4S pieces of various species for not much money.

If I'm really hard up for a particular species then I will consider going to Woodcraft or Rockler. Both seem to have various craft boards in stock and are less than an hour away from me.

I wish there was a mill with exotics near me. All I've got is a Home Despot or Mynards. :(

What about Badger Hardwoods of Wisconsin? Looks like it's about an hour from Madison, but they also do delivery and they seem to have some decent prices and selection, as well as lumber bundles, and everything is S2S out the door.

I've been there- when I say "near me" I mean "within a mile".

Here's the thing about wood: it's just too crunchy and tastes terrible. I switched to Ho-Ho's and haven't looked back.
