we recently played a handheld 20 questions game at a friend's house, and it is amazingly good at figuring things out. though it doesn't have the feature to add items.

Yeah, those handheld 20q devices are based on months of user testing on a site that used neural networking and possibly red/black trees to optimise questions and answers. Mine has none of those, but took me like 3 hours to write, and already knows the difference between fireworks, a tank, and edible underwear.
