My family is expert at dumpster diving (though my personal experience with it ended for the most part when I moved to college). We found so much stuff while I was younger--jewelry, books, clothing, electronics. While I was visiting California my dad found those electronic games that they have in bars--huge honkin' things that sit there waiting for drunk people to waste money on. He was able to sell them for a bit of money. I think they've even found hundreds of pairs of new tennis shoes.

Have you tried riding up the street in zig-zags? It requires the ability to make sharp turns, so that might not be feasible.

Have you?

Not an option. The road is too busy and people drive too fast on it. Also, they may be drunk or have psychological problems.

I believe the term is switchback. As someone who bikes hills on a daily basis for commuting purposes, I recommend becoming stronger. And if your bike has shock absorbers, disabling those would help as well. And if your bike has the shocker, maybe we could trade bikes.

I'm buying a bike soon, and I'm making damn sure to get a roadbike. Apparently all mountain bikes these days come with shock absorbers, which I cannot stand. I want a solid frame. I'm not speeding up/down a mountain trail with this thing - I'm riding on the street and or sidewalk.

i have a hybrid: 700c wheels like a road bike, but no drop handlebars. I beat the shit out of that thing and it still goes strong. I also recommend disc brakes if you live somewhere dusty or rainy.
