We had to do children's church at church once (~4 years to first grade). They hadn't really given us any training and we didn't have the coloring worksheets. So we decided to pop a movie in and Aladdin was handy. Some of the moms saw it playing, and they asked us to stop it since it was too scary. They stood outside the room whispering to each other until I told just_human what they wanted and he went out and talked to them. They agreed he could fast-forward through the really scary parts.

We had brought a VHS tape of Dinosaurs, remembering it as a funny show when we were younger. Hooboy, that is not kid friendly. We turned it off within five minutes.

I showed Logan's Run to a class of high schoolers. It was one the computer courses that Sarah used to teach, and the movie has a nice little take on technology, so I figured it would get the kids to think (possibly). It also has nudity, which I forgot about. I just had to say "Uh... let's keep this bit our little secret."

When I subbed for Sarah's class, I always had a stack of McDonald's applications that I would hand to whichever students gave stupid answers or did poorly on tests.

No wonder all my students loved it when I had a sub. The things you can get away with in the middle of nowhere.
