I'm looking for reasons to justify getting a new computer. I'm also looking at computers to get. If any of the 1 or 2 other readers have suggestions, let me know. I want something very simple, but I can still do stuff with. For example, I've found a Gateway 300S for $554. It has:
2.2Ghz processor with 128K cache
256MB DDR SDRAM
40GB hard drive
48x/24x/48x CD-RW/DVD drive
17" monitor
3 PCI expansion slots
6 USB ports (along with the serial and PS/2)
Windows XP
10/100 ethernet card
Intel Extreme Graphics with 64MB video memory
Integrated Audio
and for some reason, The Sims. The game is free, though.

So again, any ideas that are useful I might take into consideration.
