Ron and I recieved a flier in the mail about this great deal you could get at a car dealership. You would recieve a free gift just for going in. This was my experence.
First off, I walked in with Nanner and Rachel in tote. There was a fairly long line you had to wait in to recieve your free gift. This was a joy having 2 kids with me, but Rach was asleep, and there was popcorn, so Nanner was happy.
I finally got up to the table at about 5:30 (45 min. after arriving). At this point I have talked to everyone else there, and we have all realized we have won the same thing: a $1000 online shopping spree. The lady at the table informed me that I had to go to www.wsnrewards.com to shop, and it had to all be done in one fell swoop. Then she sent me to the dealer who had to sign the paper. Still no one has asked me about a car.
Ok, so I get shuffled off to talk to a dealer. By this time, Nanner has found the play area, and Rach is still asleep. The dealer has to sign the sheet of paper and asks me what type of car I would be interested in. I told him that if he could get a better deal than what I have on a minivan, I might be interested. The payments would have to be less than $210/month and the van newer than a '99. He shows me two vans. I told him I didnt even want to test drive them unless he can get the price in the range I needed, and we went in to figure numbers.
By this time, Rach has woken up and is getting fussy, but is not too bad. Nanner has found a pink balloon and is running under everyones feet.
So the dealer pulls up my information. Apparently I dont owe as much as I thought on the van. This is good. Then he tells me that for the van I am looking at would cost me $499/month for 48 months. I laugh at him and told him that my van was just fine, and decided to get up and leave. However, he wanted the sale so told me he would see what he could do. 10 minutes later, the manager comes up and tells me that if I could be flexable, they could get me a deal. He wanted me to take the van for $250/month. I told him I would pay $250/month only if it was for 48 months. He dissappered.
By this time, Rach is fussing and Nanner is throwing a full blown fit. I should have left, but they had caught my interst. My sister picked Nanner up and took her home.
The dealer came back about 15 min. later and asked for my drivers licence and proof of insurance. He said that he could come to my terms, so I figure he needs my info so I can take a test drive. A half hour later he comes back and says he needs a check for $35 until I bring him the title to my van. If I wrote him the check, the new van would be mine. I told him that I wanted to take a test drive. He looked at me and said ok, and got me the keys. It is now 7:25, and the dealership closed at 7.
So I take Rach home and feed her, and called up Ron. The van runs well, and I am really interested, but have learned my lesson, and want a mechanic to look at it. On my way back to the dealership, the check oil light comes on. This makes me nervous. But I take it back and tell the dealer that I would like to test drive it tomorrow and have a mechanic look at it. The dealer is now being very rude and goes and gets my keys for me. He tells me that if it is there tomorrow, I can drive it again. I decide on the spot that I will never go back.
After all this, I have wasted a good 3 hours of my life. What have I gotten out of it? A $1000 shopping spree at a website that has nothing on it. Just proof that you get what you pay for.
Maybe tomorrow I will tell you about the lovely carpet cleaning ripoff.
