Beating kids, nursery rhymes, site updates, and other nonsense

I have a discipline technique that a few people might not agree with, but I don't feel that I'm really harming my kids with it. When the girls were young, they learned to bite. When they would bite us, we would bite them back. We wouldn't bite hard or anything, just enough to make them realize that they probably shouldn't do that to us. When they hit us, we would lightly tap them back, which would shock them enough that they wouldn't do it anymore. I think I've only been bitten at most twice by each of the girls, and probably hit only once. I never beat them or spank them or anything like that, and this is a little bit beyond the hand slapping done by some when the child is about to touch something dangerous, but I think it has worked on the girls. They're not the "biters" or the "hitters". Of course, I don't have a control to the experiment, so I can't say that my hypothesis seems to be correct, but whatever.

Alex thinks it's a game. He'll come up and slap me upside the head, and I'd tap him on the forehead. He'll laugh and laugh, and hit me again. I'll get a little more forceful, but not a lot. Anymore I just take him and sit him somewhere else when he hits me, which just seems to confuse him. I'm getting the shit beat out of me by a one year old on a daily basis. I hope he grows out of it, or he's going to hit someone that's a little less forgiving and end up with a black eye. Or worse yet, he'll win the fight and not learn anything.

I was thinking about Humpty Dumpty the other day, and I noticed that he's an anthropomorphic egg. I sang through it in my head to figure out how he came to be an egg, but I have no idea why. Anyone have any insight on how this oafish oeuf came to be? I'm at a loss here.

I've added something to the site for all you Javascript enabled folks out there that updates the upper-right "latest" thingy up there every so often. Tell me if you like it, if you hate it, if you don't care, etc.

That's about all I have. This place is dead over the weekend. Talk it up in the forums.
